Lisa

Lisa and I

I just got off the plane from my trip back east. When you have what you need and are *fairly* rested, you can get a TON done. I wrote almost 50 e-mails, 3 docs and cleared a lot from my mind. It was awesome...

After grabbing my bag and making it to the BART, I sat looking at my ragged luggage and my mind wandered. I studied the rips in the material, the faded sections of green that exposed the black plastic underneath. The worn leather handle, adorned by a twist of scarf; the blue has become almost transparent, the red, yellow and purple flowers worn thin. The old red carpet club badge, one of the few remaining remnants from my high travel days, reflects so many business trips around the country.

And then the image became even brighter to me. I bought this rolling luggage, home to my belongings on trips throughout the world, just prior to my trip to Ibiza. I remember the trip to Costco when I bought it with Lisa. The world was so different at that point; I was so naive.

I remember when Lisa tied the scarf on the luggage so that we could find it after our flights. The bag travelled with us to Ibiza, to Paris, throughout Australia, and trips through the US for the holidays.

I learned so much from Lisa and truly value that our friendship is developing again. I spent a brief hour with her prior to heading home and we went through a lot of what I am doing with Castfire, and she was astounded to hear my brand and advertising speak. Whodda thunk it?

Well...thank you, Lisa. For setting me on this path. For teaching me so much about communication, love, work, relationships, style, design, branding, and and and and...

Hard to believe that we met just about 6 years ago...

The Corporation

Google video continues to grow their library. About once a month, I would get an e-mail with some new video in their library. Then a couple a month. Then once a week. Now a couple a week. Crazy....

Now, it appears that the entire movie of The Corporation is hosted at Google Video. That is 3 hours of video hosted to watch...

Way to go Google!

I almost bought a camera off of craiglist to replace the webcam in the photobooth -- was about an hour away from getting it. When I called to verify the directions, the guy let me know he had just sold it. :( Very disappointing....

However, even with the webcam output, I am really pumped to see people using the photobooth. So damn cool! I love it!!!

Christmas in DC

Washington and Jefferson
Originally uploaded by thepartycow.
I went to the Messaih Sing-a-long at the Kennedy Center with Mom, Dad, Rich and Jen last night. In front of us were an entire row of music majors from JMU who were sight reading and belting out the pieces. It was great to have them as a crutch and to be able to sing with them. My sight reading skills have definietly declined, but I was keeping up quite well! Tough to really sing when you are congested, but it was a good time.

Rich, Jen and I then took off to carry on a tradition that I have of shooting the monuments and memorials at Christmas. The last time, two years ago, I shot on the 24th by myself and it was quite magical. I enjoyed the company of Rich and Jen and they were super troopers to stay out in the cold with me that long!

I made it to the WWII Memorial for the first time -- it is absolutely beautiful. I definitely have to read up on the each of the pieces and the layout to grasp even more meaning. I love the fact that it caps the reflecting pool, has wreaths for each of the states, and detailed bronze murals that depict so many different aspects of the war effort. The tribute to women's involvement, back at home and on the front, is appreciated and lacking in some of the other memorials.

This was also my first trip to the FDR Memorial. It is sprawling, as compared to other president's memorials, and takes on so many different periods that span his presidency. The soup kitchen line of bronze men is frightening -- I expected at any moment for the statues to come to life and reach out to me. Their faces emote depression, their hands and feet are cold to look at, their clothes are worn thin and cling to the bony frames beneath. Quite touching to view and reflect upon as we head into a holiday season of abundance.

Happy Holidays to all. I have been putting together a list for which I am thankfull and will post it in the coming days. My thoughts are with so many people right now: my family whom I am with; my family in San Francisco; friends that have passed; friends that I am not currently in contact with; loves that I have infrequent contact with; business partners whom I blessed to have in my life. To all, may your holiday exceed your expectations and be a foundation for the coming year.

Home for the Holidays

I just wrote this to a friend...

I flew back to DC yesterday and have spent most of today sleeping and eating. I got up at 8:30 AM so that I could climb into bed with my Mom...she talked to me while I drifted in and out of dreams. I felt 8 again. I ate a breakfast sandwich and slept on the couch in the sun. I felt like a cat. I had a bowl of soup and a sandwich with my Dad. I felt 5 again. I slept on the couch this afternoon while I heard Mom, Dad and siblings scurrying around. I felt like I had just come home on break.

Being home is great. Healing. Peaceful. Fulfilling. Comforting.

I hope that your Holidays are everything that you want and more.

Happy Birthday Clark!

A happy Birthday to you, someone that I have undying respect and admiration for. Your ability to continually open your heart to your friends and family is miraculous; your drive to achieve is remarkable; your positive belief in people is inspiring. You were born to succeed and your actions prove that each day…

I know that my life changed for the better when you, Trip and I started hanging out. I wish we had logged all of the different activities, events, debaucheries, and moments that we shared together as I fear they may someday be lost in the ethos of my memory. We do have scattered pictures, stories, and tidbits that have morphed and evolved to galactic proportions – most have taken on a life of their own.

As Kelly Peters would say, I am glad you were born.

Which one is the real Santa?

This weekend is the santacon event in San Francisco. It is going to be ABSOLUTELY insane and I can't wait. Word on the streets is that the zombies are going to start eating santas, elves, reindeer and more. I do hope that the city is ready for the massive attack. I have had the time to shoot photos lately...daylight, costumes, color, anarchy, santas, zombies, cheers, booze, beautiful people, strage people, freaks, bystanders, watchers, participators, public transportation, chaos, cacaphony and lot's of FUCK = many fucking great pictures. I am damn excited.

THE FOUR FUCKS:

Don't fuck with KIDS
Don't fuck with THE LAW
Don't fuck with SECURITY
DON'T FUCK WITH SANTA!

See you there...

This year's BoC looks fucking awesome and I am pretty damn excited about it. I have not been out partying in a very long time and I am very much looking forward to it.

I am trying to work the night of the 31st to get even more $ -- could be a great night for tips. Then...well, 6 AM is going to start with a bang.

In all honesty, that is truly my preference. The 31st is truly a let down -- so many expectations, amateurs everywhere, party chasing, etc. I can't remember the last NYE that actually fulfilled all expectations; perhaps the party that I threw with Trip, Clark, Lisa, Meghan, et al. So...working through midnight, chilling until 6 sounds like the best plan.

NPR : Bluster and Satire: Stephen Colbert's 'Report'

Stephen Colbert on NPR's Fresh Air

It is amazing to me just how much the Daily Show has influenced my world. From simple things like, "ummmm....not so much," to parodies that I rip when speaking about current events. Awesome writing, amazing whit, fantastic attitude. Still miss the couch, but hey, not everything can be perfect!

Interesting for me to see just how many of my posts have pictures on them...the integrated blogging through Flickr makes it sooooo damn easy.

As I clocked out from Sauce tonight, I looked down to see that I logged 29.5 hours there this week. Add to that the 45-50+ hours on Castfire, 2-3 with Ammo and 3-4 at Shine and that is a pretty crazy week. I got up this morning and was very rude and cranky with Stoph, which was not the right thing to do. But after 5 hours of sleep for the nth day in a row, I am feeling it. Must get up in 3 hours now.

Amazing that account management can take so much time, but I really believe that it pays off. It keeps you in their minds; new opportunities always arise. I will be very excited for Monday, Tuesday and Thursday of next week!

I am working at Sauce tonight, tomorrow, Saturday, Sunday and I believe on Monday night as well. I love working there, need the cash, and enjoy the meals...but it definitely has me in a state of sleep walking right now.

My friend, Bruce Penn, is throwing at party at Shine tonight that is going to be out of hand. WILD! So...if you can make it there, get your ass there. If you can't, make sure to check the photobooth photos...they should be crazy.

I won't be there until after midnight...and then probably not that long as I am exhausted.

What a couple of weeks

The past couple of weeks has been an incredible ride...and it doesn't seem to be ending anytime soon. I could start with professional and then to personal. Or I could start with personal and then to professional. Or I could mix the two. Or I could do it based on calendar...

Provided that Nate just said, "You look the tiredest I have seen you," I am just going to get some thoughts down...

We opened a new dance lounge called Shine here in San Francisco. Located on Mission St, between 9th and 10th St, it was formerly the Red Eye Lounge. As much as I have gone out in SF, I never actually heard of, let alone went to, the Red Eye Lounge. For those of you who did, you will probably not recognize it AT ALL! There was a strong crew that redid everything from the bar to the bathrooms to the seating to the floors to the walls in just under 50 days. There were many, MANY days where we were walking out of there at 6-8 AM in the morning after working all night. My pix from opening night are here. Scumfrog came by and guest bartended for a bit and then closed out the night on the decks. Very fun evening...

About 2 weeks into construction, I mentioned that it would be very cool to have a photobooth in the corner that automatically uploads the finished pictures to Flickr for people to have. It was a fleeting, creative thought at 4 AM. A week or two later, Robert asked me how I was coming on the photobooth. The what? Well...a bunch of extremely late nights of coding led to a photobooth for the club! And here are some of the pix...

The coming weeks/months will see the webcam being replaced with a digital camera, additional LCDs and projects around the club displaying all of the photos from the night, and integration into our website. Still haven't had time to build out the website for Shine, so ShineSF.com actually redirects to our flickr account.

So...on top of that, Castfire, the startup I founded, has been kicking ass and taking names. Christoph has been the MAN and has written an amazing amount of code for the system. I am very happy with our progress and am excited to see us moving forward.

Tons more...but that is all I have time for!
